PROJECTS
Shand Online Solutions (April 2001 – present):

The following are Database-driven public Websites:

Dom Buckley Motorsport
Developed a public website (on behalf of Inspired By Technology Ltd) with Rally news, events and a photo gallery.  This site was developed as an ASP.Net (C#) application with a SQL Server database to store all vehicle (for sale) details and uses secure online forms to enable the client to add, amend and delete vehicles in the database. This application enables the client to upload photos of any size (to a maximum) and the photos automatically resize to provide a large version and also a thumbnail version to provide rollover images on the user side (see www.dombuckleymotorsport.co.uk).

Eyemouth Harbour Trust, Eyemouth
Developed a public website with a gallery of photos of the Harbour and surrounding scenery.  This site was developed using ASP.Net(C#) with a SQL Server database to store all photograph details and uses secure online forms for the uploading of photos.  The client can upload gallery photos which will automatically resize to 500px height and a thumbnail version will automatically be created for each photo in order to provide rollover images on the user side. The photo gallery is split into sections so the user can choose which section to upload the photos to and provide a more organised view for the users.  The Links and Guest Book section is also database-driven for client management of all links and moderation of guest comments. All SQL queries are in stored procedures for additional security (see www.eyemouth-harbour.co.uk).

DA Property Agents, Eyemouth
Developed a public website with a directory of all properties for sale and rental.  This site was developed using ASP.Net(C#) with a SQL Server database to store all property details and uses secure online forms for adding, amending and deletion of properties together with the functionality to upload photos and a property schedule via the online forms.  The client can upload property photos which will automatically resize to 500px width and provide a thumbnail version for each in order to provide rollover images on the user side. All SQL queries are in stored procedures for additional security (see www.dapropertyagents.co.uk).

Ken Hope Motors, Kelso
Developed a public website (with a secure admin section) as a virtual showroom for all new and used vehicles. This site was initially developed using Classic ASP with a SQL Server database to store all vehicle details and uses secure online forms for adding, amending and deletion of vehicles in the database. I have recently converted the website to an ASP.Net (C#) application with an application to enable Ken Hope to add vehicle photos which will automatically resize to 500px width and a thumbnail version for each in order to provide rollover images on the user side. I have converted all SQL queries to stored procedures for additional security (see www.ken-hope-motors.co.uk).

Caledonian Signs
Developed a bespoke e-commerce website with a secure admin section to enable adding, amending and deletion of ranges, categories, products and product options and order processing via online forms. This site was initially developed using Classic ASP with a SQL Server database to store all product and order details and I’m currently working on modernising and converting the website to ASP.Net (see www.caledoniansigns.co.uk).

Berwickshire Community Councils Forum (BCCF)
Developed a bespoke, database-driven website for BCCF using Classic ASP together with a Microsoft SQL server database. The site was designed such that the members of the BCCF can add, amend and delete News items, events and Minutes (.pdf) for their own communities and were issued with their own logon details. Each community has their own section but their information is also displayed in the general News, Events and Minutes sections (see www.bccforum.info).  I have recently created stored procedures for the whole system to enhance security.

A & M Robinson
Developed a public website with a secure admin section as a virtual showroom for all beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture. This site was initially developed using Classic ASP with a SQL Server database to store all product details and uses secure online forms for adding, amending and deletion of manufacturers, categories and products in the database. I converted most of the front end and admin section to an ASP.Net (C#) application but sadly lost this company to an Internet Marketing consultancy.

Some of the projects I was involved with whilst working with Company Net, Edinburgh:

Bank of Scotland (Intranet):
Developed and project managed a secure, database-driven intranet for the Bank of Scotland's Legal Services Department (now UK group Risk & Compliance Division) in order to pool the large amount of legal, regulatory and administrative data and information which employees require access to on a daily basis. Prior to implementing the intranet, the Division had only fragmented access to various information sources, many held in paper form. Powerful search facilities were incorporated into the intranet to make it easy for employees to find detailed information quickly and efficiently – this was done using SQL queries to search the database content together with MS Index Server to search through all the HTML pages. Active X controls were also used for the browsing, viewing and editing of MS Office files.

Morton Fraser Relocations (Extranet):
Developed a website for Morton Fraser and their customers to regularly monitor the management of employee relocations. Complex calculations and SQL queries were used to produce financial reports for each customer providing details on outstanding relocations, previous completed relocations and all relocations within any time period. An intuitive navigation bar was developed using DHTML. This site was predominantly database driven (using SQL server) populated with data daily from Morton Fraser’s systems. A trigger was written on one of the database tables to launch an email to Morton Fraser upon the addition of a new relocation case.

Scottish Fire Service (Extranet):
Developed an internet based fire safety teaching programme for the Scottish Fire Service. The project was the first of its kind and was led by Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade whose mobile classroom – although successful - had high running costs and was unable to reach all schools. This site was developed as a secure database-driven website providing interactive, fun and structured fire safety education (mainly using multiple choice questions). The site is database-driven, to facilitate the monitoring of results, trends and success of the fire safety education both by teachers and ‘mentor’ fire brigades. Sections of the site incorporate ‘clickable’ photographs and interactive graphics (developed using Macromedia Flash) with all the pages of information and tests being illustrated with bright and lively images.

Please see www.shand-online-solutions.co.uk for examples of other websites I have designed and developed.
